Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting the Northern Games, and I came away genuinely inspired. It made me incredibly proud of the partnership we have built with Britain GAA.
At Breakthrough Maths, we’re lucky to work with thousands of young people every week, helping them reach their potential in both Maths and their sports. What struck me during the visit was how much of what Britain GAA does mirrors what we try to achieve in education.
The GAA has always been about community. It gives young people a sense of belonging, and creates an environment where children can grow in confidence, make friends, work hard, and develop fundamental skills that will stay with them for life.
That’s exactly what I saw during my visit.
For families living across the UK, Britain GAA plays a hugely important role in keeping Irish culture alive. Watching young people proudly wear their club colours, learn about their heritage, and represent their communities was truly inspiring.
The volunteers, coaches, and organisers deserve enormous credit. The amount of time and energy they give to provide opportunities for young people is incredible. I even got to meet GAA President Jarlath Burns, as well as former Manchester United and Ireland player John O’Shea. At Breakthrough Maths, we’re honoured to be able to support that work.

Investing in Young People On and Off the Field
Breakthrough Maths contributes towards making our programmes more accessible for Britain GAA families, ensuring more young people can benefit from expert maths tuition alongside their sporting commitments.
As part of our partnership, we’re helping to sponsor maths tuition for GAA clubs and families. We teach students right across the UK and Ireland, supporting children through the 11+ Exam, GCSEs and A-Levels.
Britain GAA members can access these programmes with exclusive support available through their club network.
For us, this collaboration is more than Maths tutoring. We want to invest in young people and give them every opportunity to succeed.
The GAA has spent generations helping young people develop confidence, discipline, and resilience – lifelong qualities. At Breakthrough Maths, we see those same characteristics in our students every day. The students who make the greatest progress are the ones who keep showing up, keep practising and keep believing they can improve.

Learning That Fits Around Busy Family Life
Every week, we teach thousands of students across Ireland and the UK through our live online maths classes. Unlike traditional tuition, our students receive the choice to attend multiple live classes every week, with access to all recordings to let them revisit topics they may miss during practice.
I find that the biggest challenge in maths is confidence. Once the fundamentals start clicking for students, confidence builds and Maths becomes easier. This is why our lessons focus on making maths simple, enjoyable and easy to follow. Whether a student is preparing for the 11+ Exam, working towards GCSE success or tackling the demands of A-Level Maths, our programmes are designed to help them achieve their potential while fitting around their other commitments.
Our aim is simple: to help students understand maths, build confidence, and realise they’re capable of far more than they think.
Why Online Learning Works
When people hear about online maths tuition, they sometimes wonder whether it can really be as effective as traditional face-to-face grinds.
Rather than travelling to a single lesson each week, our model allows students to build momentum through consistent practice and routine. They learn with the same tutor at the same time every Monday to Thursday, creating structure and accountability throughout the school year. Between school, training sessions and family commitments, finding time to travel to and from grinds every week can be a challenge. Online learning removes that obstacle completely, allowing students to access high-quality maths support from home while maintaining consistency in their learning.
One of the biggest advantages is flexibility. With access to recordings, students can revisit topics whenever they need to. Simply catch up later without falling behind. Most importantly, online learning allows us to reach students wherever they are. Whether a family is based in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow or anywhere else across the UK, they receive the same resources.
The result is a learning experience that is designed around the realities of modern family life.

Looking Ahead
My visit to Britain GAA and the Northern Games reinforced what I’ve always believed: young people achieve extraordinary things when they have the right support around them.
It takes a village to raise a child. A coach giving up their evening to run training, a volunteer organising fixtures, a parent supporting from the sidelines, or a teacher helping a student master a difficult topic. Success is always a team effort.
We’re so proud to be part of that village.
The passion and sense of community on display were remarkable, and it’s easy to see why the organisation continues to have such a positive impact on Irish families across the UK.
