Rather than immediately correcting mistakes, encourage your child to explain how they reached their answer. This helps you understand their thinking and shows them that mistakes are an expected part of learning, not something to fear.
Rather than placing a worksheet in front of your child and asking them to complete it, guide them through the first question together. Read the question aloud, highlight the key information and encourage them to explain what they think it’s asking before they begin solving it. Once they’ve completed the first question, acknowledge their success and move on to the next.
