Edexcel GCSE Exam Dates 2027
The official Edexcel GCSE exam dates 2027 have now been released. This page includes the confirmed dates and times for all three GCSE Maths papers, along with everything you need to know about the exam format, revision tips and how to prepare for each paper.
Whether you’re sitting Foundation or Higher Tier, all students complete three written papers. Knowing the exam dates early allows you to plan your revision, organise study leave and make sure you’re fully prepared for each exam.

How is Edexcel GCSE Maths assessed?
Unlike many GCSE subjects, GCSE Maths contains no coursework or controlled assessment.
Instead, your final grade comes entirely from your performance across three written papers.
Edexcel GCSE Maths consists of three papers:
Paper 1 – Non-calculator
Paper 2 – Calculator
Paper 3 – Calculator
Each paper is worth exactly the same number of marks, so performing consistently across all three exams is far more important than relying on one particularly strong paper. The exam questions cover every area of the GCSE specification, including: Number, Algebra, Ratio, Geometry, Trigonometry, Statistics and Probability. Questions become progressively more challenging throughout each paper, with the final questions often designed to differentiate students aiming for Grades 7, 8 and 9.
Whats the difference between Higher and Foundation?
Edexcel offers two GCSE Maths tiers.
Foundation Tier
Foundation is available for students working towards Grades 1–5.
The papers contain more accessible questions while still covering the full range of essential GCSE Maths skills.
Higher Tier
Higher Tier is designed for students targeting Grades 4–9.
The content is significantly more demanding, particularly towards the end of each paper where multi-step reasoning and problem-solving questions become increasingly common.
Schools usually decide which tier students will sit after reviewing their progress throughout Year 10 and Year 11.
What is on Edexcel GCSE Maths Paper 1?
Paper 1 is the only non-calculator paper. Many students find this paper challenging because it requires strong arithmetic skills without relying on technology.
You should be comfortable with:
- Fractions
- Percentages
- Standard form
- Algebraic manipulation
- Surds
- Indices
- Exact values
- Mental arithmetic
One of the biggest mistakes students make is reaching for shortcuts that only work with a calculator. Regular practice without a calculator is one of the best ways to prepare.
What is on Edexcel GCSE Maths Paper 2?
Paper 2 is the first calculator paper. Students are expected to use their calculator efficiently while still showing full mathematical working.
Common Paper 2 topics include:
- Graph
- Simultaneous equations
- Trigonometry
- Probability
- Statistics
- Circle theorems
- Sequences
Although calculators make calculations quicker, they don’t replace mathematical understanding. Examiners still award the majority of marks for correct methods rather than simply writing the final answer.
What is on Edexcel GCSE Maths Paper 3?
Paper 3 follows a very similar structure to Paper 2 and is also completed using a calculator.
The final paper usually contains a broad mixture of topics from across the specification.
Students often notice that the final questions combine several different mathematical ideas into one problem. For example, a question could involve algebra, geometry and proportional reasoning all within the same solution.
Because every topic remains assessable until the final paper, revision should continue throughout the entire exam period rather than stopping after Paper 2.
How to revise for Edexcel GCSE Maths?

Will there be a Night Before Exams masterclass?
It is a 2-hour intensive masterclasses to focus on the highest-priority topics. We break down high-mark questions and reveal the last-minute exam techniques that can make the difference between moving up a grade.
The Night Before Exams masterclass for Edexcel GCSE Maths will run on Thursday 13th of June for Paper 1, Wednesday 26th of June for Paper 2 and Sunday 13th of June for Paper 3.
Can the Edexcel GCSE exam dates 2027 change?
As of writing, the current timetable is considered provisional by Pearson Edexcel and the JCQ, however it is unlikely the dates will change, specifically for Maths. Make sure to double-check the official timetable before all your exams.
