Supporting Academic Success & Rugby Performance
Young athletes often have a lot on their plate, managing school alongside regular training and games. This is something that becomes even more challenging during GCSE years. With this in mind, Breakthrough Maths has partnered with Jenny to offer free maths tuition to Sandbach RFC U16 players.
Alongside this, players will also have access to the 11+ programme, giving them extra support earlier on in their academic journey. Together, these opportunities can save families thousands of pounds each year, while making sure players are supported just as much in the classroom as they are on the pitch.
This initiative is designed to help our players succeed both on the pitch and in the classroom, offering flexible and accessible Maths support while highlighting our commitment to supporting the wider rugby community.
Chesire Sport & Academics
In Sandbach, rugby has become a natural meeting point for people of all ages, with the local club helping to link together schools, families, and community groups. Young players come through a well-supported network of teams, giving them a place to grow both on and off the pitch. Rather than being just another sport in the area, it’s something that helps bring people closer, creating lasting connections across the town. This initiative looks to build on that, reaching beyond the club itself and having a positive impact across the wider community.
Why We Work for Rugby Players
Balancing sport and education is never easy. (Have a read of my blog on sports and maths here.)
Rugby players naturally develop qualities that transfer exceptionally well into maths, such as logical thinking, pattern recognition, and mental focus. Our lessons build on these in-built strengths, and hope to inspire our athletes to see maths as simply another challenge to tackle and overcome.
Our sessions focus on:
We are designed to work around the realities of study–play balance, especially for players in Years 10 and 11.
