My 11 yr old has been on this course for 2 weeks and actually gets excited about her maths on zoom! I can’t believe it. The teachers have been very professional, clear and concise, and most of all very calm and patient! She said “the teacher gives us time to work out the sum!”

James McAlister

Very good communication throughout. Our child found it much more engaging than school and made for better understanding of complex topics. Highly recommend.

Kahoot Testing

| Screenshot 2025 06 20 at 10.40.56 | Breakthrough Maths

At the end of every Primary School Maths class we do a Kahoot Quiz to test the kids on what they’ve learned in the lesson. It’s fun for the kids and motivates them to pay attention in class as they want the highest score.

It also helps our tutor to keep track of what topics your child is struggling to grasp.

Ruth

Ruth is studying engineering in Dublin. She joined our team this year. Ruth has a background in coaching and running camps. That engagement and sense of fun is key to her teaching style. She’s clear, speaks slowly, and brings great energy to class. We’re very lucky to have her on board.

What Topics We Teach

| Screen Shot 2023 11 07 at 12.23.49 PM | Breakthrough Maths

For Primary School, we start with the basics like decimals, percentages, and fractions. This is the bedrock of their maths.

Then we build from there as we cover 2 topics a week. Usually, the harder topics like multiplication and division.

This way, we can be sure to cover everything they need for their exams.

How 4 Classes a Week Works

primary school maths help

Each week, we run one class per day from Monday to Thursday. Year 5 @ 5:30pm, and Year 6 @ 6:30pm

We cover one topic between Monday and Tuesday and another topic between Wednesday and Thursday.

Most of our students go to 2 classes a week either on Monday or Tuesday and Wednesday or Thursday. That way, they get everything covered. But, if they’re struggling they can go to all 4 classes during the week.

FAQ’s

Is it a 1-1 class?

Your Primary School Maths class will feel like a 1-1 session.

The student can only see the teacher. They interact only with the teacher. The teacher will talk to them infrequently, both in the class and in the chat.

What age group do you teach?

We offer our primary school maths classes to students in Year 5 & Year 6.

It doesn’t matter what their maths ability is or how many topics they’re struggling with, we’ll help them out.

How do you measure progress?

We provide in-class testing to see how each student is coping with every topic.

Your child’s results are available for you to view after each class and we will also provide you with regular updates via email/Whatsapp.

How long is each class?

Our primary school maths classes run for about 40-45 minutes.

They’re kids at the end of the day and school is already long enough, so we don’t expect them to focus for more than that length of time. If you push them to focus intensely for too long, they’ll just give up.

What if my child has a learning difficulty?

Don’t worry, our tutors are well-equipped to teach children of all learning abilities and levels.

We’ve been teaching for years now and have dealt with hundreds of kids with learning difficulties from dyslexia to dyscalculia and more. We take our time with them and make sure they get the extra attention that they need.

What’s the cost of the program?

Sample notes and worksheets?

At Breakthrough Maths, we have an abundance of sample notes for all levels, years, and topics. Check out some of our Primary School notes that go over the key Primary School Maths topics. I also have some advice for parents who don’t know how to help their child with primary school maths.

At Breakthrough Maths, we also have an abundance of sample worksheets for all levels, years, and topics. Check out some of our Primary School Worksheet Problems to go over and test your knowledge.

Do you follow the school curriculum?

Yes, we do. Most schools do the same topic at the same time of the year. We match that teaching plan.

What’s unique about our system is the fact that we offer unlimited classes each week. Each week we will be teaching two different topics. So you have choice in what you would like to study. The curriculum is very large so it can feel intense trying to revise everything; that’s why we dedicate two classes to a topic each week. The first is almost like learning the basics, and the second class is the revision and practice.
