Stockport RUFC x Breakthrough Maths

Supporting Academic Success & Rugby Performance
We know young athletes have to balance training, matches, and school, particularly during their GCSE years. This is why the Breakthrough Maths team is proud to announce our partnership with Rebecca to provide FREE maths tutoring for Stockport RUFC Under 15 and Under 16 players.
Stockport has a rich sporting tradition and a strong community spirit, with rugby playing a central role in bringing young people together. From early-stage development to high-level competition, Stockport has championed teamwork, discipline, and resilience, qualities that are just as important in the classroom as they are on the pitch. This programme ensures that our players receive the support they need to excel both academically and athletically by making maths accessible and flexible, reinforcing our commitment to the wider rugby community.
South Manchester Sport & Academics
While Stockport plays a key role in the areaโs strong community spirit, South Manchester is home to a network of schools and sports clubs, with Rugby becoming is about more than just athletics โ it bonds families, schools, and local organisations. With so many youth teams across the region, this initiative aspires to enrich the community on a wider scale.
Why This Programme Works for Rugby Players
Balancing sport and education is never easy. (Have a read of my blog on sports and maths here.)
Rugby players naturally develop qualities that transfer exceptionally well into maths, such as logical thinking, pattern recognition, and mental focus. Our lessons build on these in-built strengths, and hope to inspire our athletes to see maths as simply another challenge to tackle and overcome.
Our sessions focus on:
- GCSE-relevant topics
- Exam-focused strategies
- Problem-solving confidence
- Structured progression and revision support
Breakthrough Maths is far from generic tutoring, we are designed to work around the realities of studyโplay balance, especially for players in Years 10 and 11.
