91.5% Grade Improvement with Breakthrough Maths
At Breakthrough Maths, we’ve always believed that the right structure, the right support, and the right encouragement can truly transform how students perform in maths. In 2024, we put that belief to the test in a survey of final-year students preparing for their exams. Out of more than 300 respondents, an impressive 91.5% said Breakthrough Maths saw a grade improvement as you can see from the data below.
That’s a powerful signal. It doesn’t just show our approach works. It shows that when students feel supported and confident, their potential shines through. Many of our students moved up two full grades between their mock exams and their final exams—a significant improvement that opens doors for university courses, apprenticeships, and future careers.
So, what’s behind these results? Let’s have a closer look.
4 Classes Per Week
One of the biggest reasons our students see such strong grade improvement is the consistent structure of our programme. Each week, we run four online classes, all carefully planned to cover essential parts of the syllabus. This pace means we can work through the material in a way that is both comprehensive and manageable.
Instead of rushing through topics, we give space to revisit difficult areas multiple times. Whether it’s algebra, trigonometry, calculus (or whatever the syllabus calls for), we cover it. Because students have four interactions each week, they don’t feel like they’ve “missed out” if something isn’t clear first time around.
Parents often tell us this consistency is what makes the difference. A once-a-week lesson simply doesn’t compare. Seeing maths four times a week ensures the knowledge sticks, and that builds genuine confidence.
Recordings Available
We understand that life is busy. Between sports, other school subjects, part-time jobs, family commitments—students sometimes can’t make every live class. That’s why all lessons are recorded and shared each week.
If a student misses a lesson, they don’t fall behind. They can rewatch the lesson at a time that works, pause, rewind, and go back to tricky sections. This is especially helpful when tackling topics that need repeated exposure—functions, logarithms, coordinate geometry, etc. For parents, it also brings real reassurance: your child always has access to the teaching, no matter what else is going on.
You can watch an example class of our tutor Harry going through Year 11 Trigonometry below.
No Pressure In Class
Maths can feel daunting, and too often in classrooms there’s pressure to keep up or to perform. At Breakthrough Maths we do things differently.
There’s no pressure to respond in front of everyone. Students can type in answers privately to the tutor if they prefer. If a concept isn’t clicking, we take the time to go over it again. Our guiding principle is simple: understanding comes before speed. When students feel safe to ask questions and make mistakes, real learning happens. Many tell us our classes feel “relaxed but focused”, a place where they can breathe, ask, try, and grow. So while grade improvement is great to see, we focus on understanding first.
Results Between The Mocks and The Final Exam
The proof is in the progress. This year, the majority of our final-year students rose two entire grades between their mock exams and their final exams. That grade improvement can make all the difference—whether that means achieving the offers they wanted for university, or having more choices for further courses or work opportunities.
One student shared that before joining Breakthrough Maths, they were on a lower grade in their mock exams; by the time finals came along, they’d moved up significantly—a jump that turned what seemed impossible into possible. Another parent said their child’s confidence soared: for the first time, the idea of “maths exam” didn’t feel terrifying—it felt manageable.
When we look back at the survey, the numbers match the stories. With 91.5% of students reporting grade improvement, and only a small percentage saying they didn’t, the message is clear: our methods are producing real change.
More Than Just Grade Improvement
Of course, grades matter. They’re critical for university applications, apprenticeships, job prospects. But what Breakthrough Maths builds goes beyond the final mark. Students leave not only better prepared for exams, but with stronger problem-solving skills, more effective study habits, and most importantly, greater confidence in their own abilities.
For parents, that’s priceless. Watching a child who once dreaded maths who now approaches it with determination and calm is a change that lasts well beyond exam season.
What Parents and Students Say
Of course, we’re incredibly proud of these results, but the voices that matter most are those of the families we work with. Here’s what parents and students have said about their experience with Breakthrough Maths:
Final Thoughts
2024 has shown us something we’ve always believed: with the right structure, resources, and encouragement, students can achieve remarkable grade improvements in maths. Breakthrough Maths isn’t about quick fixes or pressure-filled classrooms. It’s about steady, consistent support that gives students the tools and confidence to succeed.
So, whether your child is finding maths tough, or aiming to jump up to the next grade, remember this: they’re not alone.
